Are We Measuring What Matters? Rethinking Outcomes and Value Assessment in Palliative Care
Presenter: Dr Claudia Fischer, Medical University of Vienna
Abstract: What matters to patients receiving palliative care, how well can we measure it, and how should it inform assessments of value? In this talk, Dr Fischer will draw on her research on patient-reported outcomes and economic evaluation to explore these questions. Bringing together evidence from systematic reviews and multicentre empirical research, she will examine the gap between methodological ideals and the realities of conducting research with seriously ill patients, and discuss what this means for outcome measurement and value assessment in palliative care.
About the Speaker: Dr Claudia Fischer is a researcher at the Department of Health Economics, Medical University of Vienna. Her research focuses on outcomes research and health economic evaluation in palliative and end-of-life care, with a particular interest in assessing quality of care across different illness trajectories and identifying and reducing inequalities in care.
