Abstract: Generative AI tools like ChatGPT exploded onto the scene in November 2023, accompanied by hype and hand-wringing in the education sector. How have things changed since then? Join us for a dialogue about how learning with AI and AI literacy could and should be embedded in the school curriculum. Hear from Judy about theoretical and research perspectives and from Andrew on a teacher’s view with rich classroom examples. We’d love to hear your thoughts too.
Judy Robertson is a Professor in Digital Learning at the University of Edinburgh. She has a PhD in educational technology and a BSc in Artificial intelligence and computer science from twenty-five years before AI became so fashionable. She is currently researching children and young people’s views on GenAI at school, and models of self-directed learning using GenAI with university students.
Andrew Hay is a Principal Teacher of Technologies at Newbattle High School Digital Centre of Excellence. He is a qualified Technology and Computing teacher who introduced Generative AI into lessons in 2021 and has since supported whole school training in generative AI as well as working on innovative AI projects at class level as well as whole school level.
