Title: Introduction to Clinical Practice

Summary/Overview: This workshop provides training in principles of trauma and its effects on developing children. It pairs educational didactic work with case examples and time for group discussion. Participants have a better understanding of the guidelines for clinicians who work with traumatized children.

Objectives: This training for will cover an overview of common diagnoses seen in children who come into our care including PTSD, ADHD, and ASD. Participants will gain a better understanding of how trauma affects children at different stages in their development. Additionally, this will cover understanding boundaries and vicarious trauma in a variety of clinical setting. Objectives: 1) Identify the stages of development and how they are physically and emotionally affected by trauma. 2) Identify 3 symptoms of vicarious trauma 3) Give examples of PTSD symptoms that mimic symptoms of ADHD

Presenter(s): Janet Murphy, LCSW and Mindy Solomon, LCSW.  Trainer Janet Murphy, LCSW is Clinical Supervisor at FCA and on our Leadership Team. Janet Murphy, LCSW has been presenting adaptations of this course for many years and was the original creator of its curriculum.  Trainer Mindy Solomon, LCSW is a licensed clinician with a specialty of working with foster youth and families, as well as Train the Trainer.

Credits Available: 2.5 Credit hours are available for this session.

Family & Children's Aid has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7433. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Family & Children's Aid is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
