About this seminar
When your child rejects you, fear can begin to govern the relationship, and you become frightened of saying the wrong thing. You rewrite messages, over-explain, apologise, tolerate behaviour you would once have challenged, and find yourself constantly wondering, 'what if this makes my child reject me even more?' Slowly, without realising it, you can lose the psychological sense of yourself as a parent as well as losing your physical relationship with your child. Coming back from that place can feel impossible because the relationship has been narrowed into a bind in which you are always doing wrong whatever you try to do.
This practical two-hour seminar is about learning how to stand up again. We will explore how to move from appeasement and fear towards calm, confident parenting: setting boundaries without retaliation, responding to hostility without becoming defensive, communicating without pleading, and remaining emotionally available without chasing your child.
Standing up does not mean becoming angry, withdrawing your love or giving up. It means learning to be loving without begging, available without chasing, compassionate without accepting abuse, and confident without becoming controlling. This is Lighthouse Keeping in practice: recovering your own psychological position while keeping the relationship open for your child. Because your child cannot recover whilst you are on your knees in the relationship, your child can only receive when you are standing in the light showing them where they belong.
This is two-hour Saturday Seminar with Karen Woodall is based on the new Lighthouse Keeping Relational Repair Pathway from the Family Separation Clinic. If you want to learn how to help and heal your alienated child, without spending your whole life on your knees hoping that something will change, this seminar is for you.
NB: This seminar is applicable regardless of whether or not you are currently seeing, or in communication with your child.
