The Art of Floral Arranging

Thu 11 Jun 2026 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM BST Farleys House, BN8 6HW

Join us at Farleys for our first ever floral arranging workshop with the highly experienced and multi-award winning florist, Sue Flight.

During this workshop you will complete your own floral arrangement to take home, enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee with a slice of homemade cake and then afterwards, have the freedom to view the exhibitions in Farleys' galleries and wander or picnic in our lovely sculpture garden.

This is a beginner's workshop with no previous experience necessary. With Sue, you will complete your own arrangement to take home with you. Your arrangement will be inspired by the natural environment of Sussex, and use flowers of the season.

Lee Miller loved flowers and always had beautiful, but simple, arrangements adorning her home at Farleys, so it feels particularly fitting to be introducing this workshop to our programme at Farleys!

Sue Flight lives locally and has enjoyed walking in local woods all of her life. She finds inspiration in the sights, sounds and scents to be found in woodland.

Sue is a qualified adult education tutor and taught at Brinsbury College, teaching City and Guilds floral art and preparing working designs.

Her love of flowers has taken her on quite a journey. She has competed in Japan, gaining a first prize at the world show, and competed in Oman and India, where she gained further awards. She has represented the United Kingdom at the world show in Glasgow, and been on the Sussex Chelsea Flower Show team, completing a large exhibit in the main marquee and winning a gold medal. Sue also has two other individual Gold Medals from the Chelsea Flower Show, as well as a collection of other awards for her artistic flare and imaginative designs.

Sue is currently a NAFAS National Demonstrator.

For a total of 25 years she worked at the prestigious Gravetye Manor, as a florist and then as the head florist, picking from their famous kitchen gardens for her innovative designs.

Sue has recently begun a new chapter in her life, returning to her own beloved garden and local woods, as the sources for her floral designs from untamed nature. To return to walking in the surrounding woods not only for pleasure, but inspiration, seems to complete her creative circle, she says, 'Sometimes the simplicity of twigs and a few flowers can be so much more than they appear from their components alone.' The art is in the arrangement.

Tickets £95, non-refundable, no exchanges. Please be sure of your availability before booking. The workshop includes: 2 1/2 hours tuition, a floral arrangement of your making to take home, a complimentary cup of tea/coffee with a slice of homemade cake, and access to Farleys' galleries and garden. It does not include a House Tour. The workshop runs between 10am – 12.30pm.

On the day: Please check in at Farleys Gallery, your workshop will then be held in Farleys' new Atelier, in Farleys' Yard.

Please email us at the time of booking if you have any questions.
