Summer Flower Sketching and Painting Workshop

Join us at Farleys for our popular Summer Sketching Workshop, with painting being added for 2026!

A workshop suitable for beginners and experienced artists. Improve your observational and creative skills by sketching flowers and foliage in the inspiring sculpture garden at Farleys House and Gallery assisted by experienced tutor Gilly Lovegrove.

The sculpture garden’s beautiful planting is our inspiration for this summer drawing and painting workshop. The day is about enjoying the sketching process and the mindfulness that can take place whilst engaging with nature. We look at proportion, shape and texture; studying petal formations and leaf shape, bringing our drawing to life and discovering the beauty in garden blooms and architectural planting. There will be a demonstration on sketching clusters of flowers and individual flower heads. We immerse ourselves further into discovering colour, contrast and tone in flowers shapes, developing our studies into colourful, creative painterly compositions. Whether you’re new to botanical art or looking to develop your drawing and painting skills, Gilly’s expert guidance will ensure that you feel confident to develop your studies and be inspired by the colour and beautiful light in the summer garden.

Tea and cake will be served at 2.30pm. Sketching materials and cartridge paper are provided. A suggested materials list for painting or drawing in colour will be provided on booking. We recommend that comfortable, all terrain shoes are worn. Your workshop includes all day access to Farleys' galleries and sculpture garden.

Tickets £95, non-refundable, no exchanges. Please be sure of your availability before booking. The workshop includes: 5 hours tuition, basic sketching materials, a complimentary cup of tea/coffee with a slice of homemade cake, and access to Farleys' galleries and garden. It does not include a House Tour. The workshop runs between 10am – 3.00pm.

On the day: Please check in at Farleys Gallery, your workshop will then be held in Farleys' new Atelier, in Farleys Yard and in Farleys sculpture garden.
