Lee Miller's War: Witnessing Women
Thu 9 Jul 2020 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
Lee Miller and her Rolleiflex camera were witness to the events of WWII, the battles and the lives destroyed, ensuring that the horror will never be forgotten.
Whilst recording WWII events she was also photographing and writing about aspects of women's roles during the war; wartime fashion, the work
of the WRENS, ATS, Land Girls, nurses, refugees in Europe, concentration camp victims, women accused of collaboration and those forced into slave labour.
Her story and that of the women she encountered is told through her own images which are presented by her son, Antony Penrose, while her written word is spoken by her granddaughter, Ami Bouhassane.
The presentation is then followed by a Q&A with Antony and Ami
Lee Miller's War: Witnessing Women was originally supposed to be performed live at Farleys in April to celebrate the opening of Grim Glory. Lee Miller's Britain at War,
an exhibition from the Lee Miller Archives, along with the launch of
our brand new publication; 'Grim Glory. Lee Miller's Britain at War.'
