Inside The Gate: Crawfords Farm, Co. Tipperary

This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a working farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

Mimi and Owen Crawford operate Crawford’s Farm. Theirs is a small traditional Irish working farm, comprising of twenty-eight acres in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary. It is certified organic where they milk cows, keep pigs, chickens and ducks. The focus is largely on their micro-dairy, with Irish Shorthorn and Moiled cows dominating the pastures producing raw milk, raw cream, raw butter and raw buttermilk, with all processes completed on-farm. Aside from the dairy aspect, they also raise a couple animals for 100% grass-raised beef. They believe nature is diverse and farms should be as well. 

Visitors are welcome to the farm from 1:30pm and there will be refreshments upon arrival. There will a guided farm walk starting at 2pm. Visitors arriving after this time are welcome to access the farmyard and fields immediately adjacent but unfortunately, since it is a working farm with livestock, we cannot cater for visitors wandering unaccompanied.

Some highlights may include:

• Meet the farmer and tour the farm. 
• Pick blackberries or other edibles. 
• Pick apples or other fruit.
• Meet the animals.
• Tour the small farmstead creamery used for raw dairy production.

Other information:

• Any dairy and meat products can be bought from the farm but MUST be pre-ordered by 11am on Saturday August 29th. Spontaneous purchases on the day can unfortunately not be accommodated. Pre-orders are welcome online: https://crawfordsfarm.ie/find-our-products/shop-page/
• We have a suitable place inside for a picnic so bring some if you wish.
• We will do light refreshments like tea/coffee/scones on the day in lieu of a donation.
• There will be a toilet available. (While a toilet is available onsite, it is located in our well-lived-in tiny home. Participants are welcome to use it but are encouraged to use facilities before arriving if at all possible).
• This event is suitable for buggies around the farm yard but not elsewhere.
• No dogs allowed.
• Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather.

FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
