This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!
What to expect
Tony Grogan farms 22 hectares in the Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary, rearing a purebred Aberdeen Angus suckler herd under a fully organic system since 2015. With the River Aherlow, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for freshwater pearl mussels, bordering his land, Tony manages the farm with precision and care, adapting his methods to suit the landscape, from hilly terrain to river plain.
Some highlights may include:
- Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
- Learn about organic beef farming and see the animals.
- Pick blackberries or other edibles.
- See the results of a moth survey.
- Explore a variety of farmland habitats and learn about insects, wildlife and more.
Other information:
- We have a suitable place inside for a picnic so bring some if you wish.
- We will be providing light refreshments like tea, coffee and scones etc on the day in lieu of a donation.
- There will be a toilet available.
- Unfortunately this event is not suitable for buggies, wheelchairs or people with limited mobility.
- No dogs allowed.
- Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather!
FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
