Inside the Gate: Gerry Farm, Co. Wexford (Morning)

This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

Join Nicholas Redmond on his organic mixed livestock farm in County Wexford, where nature is at the heart of every farming decision. Meet Dexter cattle, sheep, chickens, donkeys and more, explore species-rich meadows, woodlands and orchards, and discover how farming can support healthy soils, thriving wildlife and beautiful landscapes. It's a wonderful opportunity for families and nature lovers to experience a farm where people, animals and nature flourish together.

There will be a tour of the farm, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to look around and ask the farmers any questions you may have! 

Some highlights may include:

• Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
• Meet the animals - Dexter cattle, sheep, chickens, donkeys... 
• Explore and learn about the different farmland habitats - meadows, woodland, ponds etc...
• Citizen science – do a basic insect survey.
• Learn about how different fruits and vegetables are grown. 

Other information:

• We have a suitable place inside/outside for a picnic so bring some if you wish.
• We will be providing light refreshments like tea, coffee and scones etc on the day in lieu of a donation.
• There is no toilet on site. Make sure you use facilities before attending the event. 
• Unfortunately this event is not suitable for buggies, wheelchairs or people with limited mobility. 
• No dogs allowed.
• Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather.

FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
