Inside the Gate: Brown Envelope Seeds, Co. Cork

This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

Join Madeline on her organic mixed farm, where nature, farming and seed growing work hand in hand. Discover how cattle grazing, healthy soils, wildflowers and pollinators all play an important role in producing food and seeds while caring for the environment. From colourful habitats to homegrown vegetable seeds, this is a fascinating visit for families, gardeners and anyone interested in seeing how nature-friendly farming can thrive.

The event will be a celebration of tomatoes - so there will be a display of tomato varieties and a demonstration/workshop on saving tomato seeds. There will also be a farm tour.

Some highlights may include:

• Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
• Pick blackberries or other edibles.
• Collect seeds.
• Tomato variety display.
• Visit ponds, meadows, woodland, orchards - learn about various farmland habitats and the wildlife they support.
• Meet cattle and donkeys. 

Other information:

• Madeline's seeds will be for sale on the day - please bring cash. 
• There will be tea/coffee/light refreshments available on the day.
• There is a picnic area at the farm so feel free to bring your own picnic to the event. 
• There will be a toilet available.
• The yard is OK for buggies, but other areas of the farm are not suitable.
• No dogs allowed.
• Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather.

FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
