Inside the Gate: Mount Allen Farm, Co. Roscommon

This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a working farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

Join Tommy Earley on his organic farm on the shores of Lough Allen, where farming, wildlife and community come together in a truly special landscape. Explore raised bogs, native woodlands, wildflower meadows and lakeshore habitats, and discover how careful farming helps protect rare plants, butterflies and birds. With a lifetime of experience and a passion for sharing his knowledge, Tommy offers an inspiring day out for families, nature lovers and anyone curious about farming in harmony with nature.

Some highlights may include:

• Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
• Pick/dig up vegetables.
• Learn about community gardens. 
• Learn about various farmland habitats - meadows, ponds, woodland, hedgerows, wild bird cover - and the wildlife/insects that these habitats support. 

Other information:

• We have a suitable place for a picnic so bring some if you wish.
• We will be providing light refreshments like tea, coffee and scones etc on the day in lieu of a donation.
• There will be a toilet available.
• Please get in touch if there is someone with limited mobility and we will see what we can do to cater to this. 
• There will be vegetables for sale on the day - please bring some cash if you wish to purchase. 
• No dogs allowed.
• Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather.

FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
