Inside the Gate: Cloncannon Bio Farm, Co. Tipperary

This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a working farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

The Farm enterprise Organic suckler cow herd, pigs, broiler chickens, geese, donkeys and a goat.
We are nearly self-sufficient in organic meats, potatoes and vegetables. We also grow apples and soft fruits.
There are fine hedgerows, woodlands, wildflower meadows and ponds on the farm also. The is also a fine example of a ringfort on the farm and some very interesting local history stories.

Some highlights may include:

• Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
• Pick/dig up vegetables.
• Citizen science – do a basic insect survey.
• Investigate the plants in the wildflower meadows. 
• Use different apparatus to gather different little creatures in different habitats. 
• Explore the various farmland habitats - meadows, ponds, woodland and more!
• Meet the animals - cow herd, pigs, broiler chickens, geese, donkeys and a goat!

Other information:

• We have a suitable place inside for a picnic so bring some if you wish.
• We will be providing light refreshments like tea, coffee and scones etc on the day in lieu of a donation.
• There will be a toilet available.
• Buggies are OK around the farmyard but not suitable for the farm walk. 
• I will have organic chicken and pork products available for visitors to buy. I do not have a payment system, only cash.
• No dogs allowed. 
• Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (this is a working farm). Dress for the weather.
• Look out for each other.

FFN is a non-profit organisation and any money raised is circulated back into the farming community. FFN is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the National Parks and Wildlife Services.
