This Inside the Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a farm and see the important work that farmers do for nature in your local community. This event is open to families, and will be held on different farms across the country on Sunday August 30th. You must purchase a ticket to attend as numbers are limited (first come, first served). Adult tickets cost €5 and kids (under 16 y/o) go free!

What to expect

Leitrim Hill Creamery is a small holding goat farm and creamery in Drumcong, County Leitrim. We make small batch artisanal raw milk cheeses utilising milk from our own herd of goats as well as milk from partner farmers in the region. We pride ourselves on our commitment to sustainable practices and the passion for quality that we pour into our craft. Our cheese is the result of the ethos of responsible land stewardship, both on our own farm and the farmers with whom we partner. Great grass, a personally developed microbial culture, raw milk, and thoughtful hands all contribute to the distinct flavour of our Leitrim made cheeses. Our aim is to promote County Leitrim and local Irish cheese producers. Blessed are the cheesemakers!

We plan to offer an interactive farm tour and tasting of cheese and ice creams. We will give an overview of our rotational grazing systems, hedgerows, pond, and other features of our small holding farm. We will also give an introduction to the process of building and establishing a micro-creamery on farm and share production insights into our cheese and ice cream making process.

Some highlights may include:

  • Meet the farmer and tour the farm.
  • Watch milking.
  • Creamery viewing and interactive cheese and ice cream tasting.
  • Meet the animals - goats, Dexter cow and calf, Kune Kune pigs, hens.
