With Lee Kyle, stand up comedian and director.
It is useful for: Stand up comedians who are looking to write a solo show at any point in the future.
Stand up comedians who want to improve their set, creativity, writing and performance in general.
Other performers hoping to create a show who would like to improve connection with the crowd, writing and editing and show structure.
Lee is a comedian of 16 years, have written 8 solo shows with his 9th to be performed at The Tyne Theatre in April after the current tour.
He has also worked as a director on lots of stand up and theatre shows, quotes below from some He's worked on.
Sammy Dobson:
“Lee has an incredible ability to find order, story and a bigger picture and help you find a route through and clarity in the noise. He’s incredibly supportive and funny to his bones. An absolute joy to work with.”
Elaine Robertson:
Lee is a fabulous director and encouraged me to tell stories I’ve wanted to tell but have previously been too nervous to try.
Neil Harris:
Lee watched me stumble through the worst preview imaginable — 30 minutes of silence — and, through a series of meetings, helped me craft a show I’m immensely proud of. A show built on my ideas, yet one I could never have created without him.
Kelly Rickard:
Lee seems to take people’s ideas, personalities and words and help transform them into great shows.
Kerris Gibson:
Lee is a great listener and was able to hone in on what the central themes of my show were - in such a way that was encouraging and super helpful. He knows what works/fits and what doesn’t, and gives feedback with understanding and patience. He’s one of the best I’ve ever worked with and I can’t wait to make more with him. My show wouldn’t have existed without him.
Julie Grady Thomas:
Working with Lee was a complete boon – to the show and to my growth professionally. He was able to help me realize a vision for the show that was authentic to me as a performer, and he did it with an intrinsic kindness and respect. No idea too small, too weird, too wild. Meetings were sacred spaces to create art, and as pretentious as that sounds, it wasn’t at all.
Jake Donaldson:
Without Lee directing there's no way my show would have ended up taking the route it did, and as a result it's the most creative and heartfelt show I've ever made.He encouraged me to explore directions that I'd originally shied away from and helped me find new angles that ended up making the show much more interesting than the fairly straight-forward stand-up shows I've made in the past. Lee is really good at pointing you in the right direction without taking over and steam-rolling you into making something you don't like. He attended an early preview, provided comprehensive feedback and notes, and then provided continual help and direction over the development of the show - it was definitely worth the cost.
Luke Connell:
Lee helped me make vast improvements to my material and performance. He’s especially good at developing a show’s structure, variety and texture, all while working with an act’s own style and persona.
