Language Justice Across South-South Migration: Roundtable
Share this event
Tamara Isaac FCRJ's 2025/26 Activist-in-Residence shares findings from her project, Language Justice Across South-South Migration: Tools for Dignified Integration.
Drawing on trauma-informed focus groups with Black immigrants from Haiti, West Africa and Central Africa, and an organisational assessment conducted with immigrant-serving organisations in Brazil, Tamara's research traces how language access shapes everyday experiences of racialised exclusion — and what it would take to build more dignified, multilingual systems of care.
Tamara will be in conversation with moderator Dr. Lucia Kula, alongside contributors: Nduduzo Siba, Black immigrant in São Paulo; Assis Tavares, formerly of Secretaria de Direitos Humanos and Karina Quitanilha of Fronteiras Cruzadas.
This event is open to all. We particularly welcome trauma-informed practitioners, migrant support and justice organisations, interpreters and anyone working at the intersection of race, migration and language access.
Format: Virtual roundtable via Zoom
Language: Delivered in English, with live English–Portuguese interpretation
Date and time: Wednesday 29 July, 4:00 – 5:30pm UK time (BST)
