In Association with Sheffield Energy Hub and South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre

At a national level, Great British Energy is up-and-running and has announced a Local Power Plan with a £1 billion fund to accelerate community-owned clean energy projects. The government's £15 billion Warm Homes Plan will introduce new programmes and funding for domestic decarbonisation, significantly affecting the retrofit market and how businesses deliver their services. At the same time, the war in Iran has seen energy security take centre stage in the public consciousness, while recent scandals have seen poor housing conditions increasingly recognised as one of today’s most pressing public health issues.

Locally, the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre's composite report on four years of Research England and SYMCA-funded research was published in March. Its recommendations set a policy agenda on retrofit and residential energy issues for local decision-makers to respond to. We also have a growing pool of local clean energy and retrofit practitioners, ranging from insulation installers to tech developers, to help them do this.

This event is a chance for policy-makers, practitioners, researchers and concerned citizens to come together to discuss how we can take advantage of the opportunities opened up by these developments, and hear/question each other about the best way to collaborate to realise them at a local level. We’ll have two expert rapporteurs on hand to make sense of it all and pull together the threads of the emerging consensus positions in an integrated way.

This will be an essential event for all those wanting to help establish a coherent response and a credible way forward on retrofit and residential energy in South Yorkshire.
