The effects of Brexit will be felt for decades to come. It follows from this that young people are going to suffer for longer and, in many ways, more severely than many people due to the particular impacts of Brexit on their life chances. The freedom to study, work, settle and travel freely within the European Union has been stripped away and the UK has removed itself from programmes such as Erasmus, which offered such opportunities to young people to experience life away from this small island.
What do young people think about this sad state of affairs? Do they feel motivated to do something about it and make the reversal of Brexit, which many see as inevitable, a reality?
We are delighted to welcome 3 passionate and intelligent young campaigners to share their thoughts. Olga Ambrosiewicz manages EuroPeers UK, the international network for young people with international experience under European youth programmes. Madeleina Kay is a highly creative and energetic political activist, dubbed "EU Supergirl", who was named Young European of the Year 2018 in recognition of her work promoting the benefits of European solidarity and highlighting the damage that Brexit would cause. Michael Anderson recently joined Young European Movement as Youth Engagement Officer, having previously worked in the sustainability sector and in the area of green policy.
Tickets to this event are free, but we would appreciate your generous donations to give us the initial funding we need to make the Festival of Europe a reality.
