Civic High Streets: What Could Ramsgate Become?

Across the country, communities are finding new ways to shape their high streets – bringing buildings back into use, creating new civic and community spaces, supporting local enterprise and rethinking what town centres are for.

This interactive session will combine ideas and examples from elsewhere with a live exploration of Ramsgate High Street.

Nick Plumb from Power to Change will introduce the thinking behind Civic High Streets and share examples of how communities are taking a greater role in shaping their town centres.

Louise Brooks from Ramsgate Space will then bring the conversation back to Ramsgate: the particular opportunities and challenges here, what we’re learning through Ramsgate Space’s work, and the question of what a more civic and community-led high street might look like.

Using a selection of case studies from other places as inspiration, participants will then move into a participatory design session, working together to explore what Ramsgate could borrow, adapt or do differently.
