Iain Tolhurst has been at the forefront of the UK organic farming movement for almost 50 years. His 8-ha farm has won many awards, and he has written several books, as well as countless articles. He is best known for his work on Stockfree Organic systems and standards - 'Stockfree' refers to a system which does not use inputs from livestock (e.g. manure).
For many decades he has been delivering inspirational speeches and presentations on the farm’s organic and innovative methods or food production. His wide knowledge and experience have made him in much demand both nationally and internationally delivering presentations and educational seminars, and in 2023 Iain was awarded an MBE from King Charles in recognition of his contribution to agriculture.
Join our campfire event for a fascinating insight into the various components that make up Iain's Stockfree organic farm - from the green manures and diverse rotations, to the woodchip composts and integration of agroforestry to the vegetable system. The integration of crops, a systems approach to pest and disease management and biodiversity all make for a fascinating and durable agricultural system, which people come from all over the world to visit.
There will also be the opportunity during the session to ask all of your burning questions about soil health, building diversity into your systems and what it means to be stockfree!
