Sharing Good Practice: The Devil Wears Frada - Creating an immersive teaching simulation (Fashion Retail Academy)
With Ryan Brockbank and Rosie Coverini
Fashion Retail Academy
Session Overview
PowerPoints are dead. Long live immersive learning. Discover how the Fashion Retail Academy transformed their class space into Runway Magazine for a full-day Devil Wears Prada–inspired immersive experience for Level 3 learners. Hear about learners stepping into real industry roles — editors, stylists, writers, digital teams — working under pressure to produce a live magazine issue exploring British pop icons and their influence on Gen Z fashion and culture. This session outlines how simulation can permanently establish critical and collaborative skills that learners must acquire for creative industries employment.
Ryan and Rosie reveal how they briefed learners like professionals, sent them on live research tasks across campus, challenged them with curveball distractions, and required them to make advertorial pitches, while being adaptive to feedback. Simulated teaching isn't about conventional learning, its engagement on an industrial scale - cementing ownership, confidence and real-world skills development in the moment. Learners were no longer asking “what do I need to do?”, but were instead asking: “what do we do next?”. Find out the secret of their success, its impact, how they planned it and how you could do the same.
All ticket prices are subject to a £1.50 booking fee
