Gansey knitting workshop
Join knitter Jean Long for a special workshop on Oileán Chléire, exploring knitting in the gansey style. There will be a small presentation on the Geansaí Chléire, a heritage gansey knit by local woman Catherine Con Cadogan on the island in 1920. Jean has designed a cowl with gansey stitch patterns for the workshop. We will knit this gansey in the round and learn how to read and follow the charts for the pattern. There will be the option to design your own too and we will discuss how to fit different pattern motifs into your own design, if you wish. This is a fun and creative workshop suitable for anybody with basic knitting skills: knit, purl, cast on and cast off. All materials will be provided.
This workshop is par of August Craft Month and Heritage Week and is funded and supported by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland.
