WOR(L)D-BUILDING: a writing workshop with FIELDNOTES

Sat 6 Jul 2024 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM CCA Glasgow, G2 3JD

Join us for a writing workshop focused on process and poetics, hosted by the wonderful CCA Glasgow!

In this workshop we will explore making meaning by turning towards and away from language. Through experimentation with systems of mark-making and notation, we will investigate the shapes and shades of meaning at the edge of language and understanding. Focusing on conversations and process rather than outcomes, a series of prompts will guide our writing towards performative world-building through the visual and sonic body of language.

With the aim of generating new ideas and approaches to writing, we will look for inspiration at speculative fictions such as Riddley Walker by Russel Hoban, The Slynx by Tatyana Tolstaya and Blue Lard by Vladimir Sorokin; alongside texts and drawing by Travis Jeppesen, Renee Gladman and Henri Michaux.

The workshop will take place in the Club Room of the CCA, access information is below, please get in touch with us at info@fieldnotes.site if you have any queries about access requirements.

Refreshments and materials provided. All levels of experience are warmly welcomed!

ABOUT

FIELDNOTES is an artist-run publishing project based in Newham in east London. We produce a print journal twice a year alongside a public programme of workshops, mentoring opportunities, radio broadcasts, screenings and readings. Founded in 2020, FIELDNOTES aims to promote and support non-conforming creative practices that pioneer new cultural forms. We seek to challenge the systemic inequalities that limit opportunities in the arts by working with individuals and communities who may not find support elsewhere. Our purpose is to provide a test site for poetic innovation, a place for new voices and collaborations, a venue for experimental modes and fresh departures between disciplines. We are interested in the third thing between two known things; we are looking for the spaces between translations and transitions.
