FOLD II: a watching & writing workshop with FIELDNOTES
FOLD II: a watching & writing workshop with FIELDNOTES
Join us for the second in our series of watching and writing sessions investigating the language of memory, with a focus on process, practice and conversation. Hosted by the wonderful House of Annetta in Tower Hamlets, London.
Films and texts will provide departure points for poetic enquiries into themes of record and reality, fiction and forgetting, emergence and erasure. A series of writing prompts will take us through systems of notation, memory palaces, dissident archives, hive minds and redacted records as we consider how our writing is shaped by and shapes our memories.
Amongst other references we will watch & read together:
A Truce That Is Not Peace by Miriam Toews
Self Portrait in Green by Marie NDiaye
Dictee by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha
Lore by Sky Hopinka
Blight by John Smith
We welcome participants of all levels of experience, from all backgrounds and across all disciplines. Writing materials and refreshments will be provided.
ACCESS
House of Annetta is not wheelchair accessible due to the existing architecture of the building. The garden has a change of level as you exit the house, and there is a step down into the only toilet on site which is not wheelchair accessible. The floor surfaces and steps throughout the house are uneven due to the age of the building. There are two level changes across the outside garden.
Please get in touch with any further queries about access requirements: info@fieldnotes.site
ABOUT
FIELDNOTES is an artist-run publishing project based in Newham in east London. We produce an annual print journal alongside a public programme of workshops, mentoring opportunities, radio broadcasts, screenings and readings. Founded in 2020, FIELDNOTES aims to promote and support non-conforming creative practices that pioneer new cultural forms. We seek to challenge the systemic inequalities that limit opportunities in the arts by working with individuals and communities who may not find support elsewhere. Our purpose is to provide a test site for poetic innovation, a place for new voices and collaborations, a venue for experimental modes and fresh departures between disciplines. We are interested in the third thing between two known things; we are looking for the spaces between translations and transitions.
House of Annetta is a space for learning about the ways in which ownership of land shapes our lives and the world around us. 25 Princelet Street was the home of beekeeper, artist, activist and publisher Annetta Pedretti from 1980-2018. We are committed to continuing her work at the house through building repair, self-organised education, and cybernetic projects.
