Join us for the second in a series of live events taking place across London this summer! FIELDNOTES Live is a new programme bringing together artists and writers working across sonic and textual terrains. We will be presenting ideas that are coming-into-being, poetic excavations and aural interventions.

This event is hosted by our friends at Spanners by Loughborough Junction, one of the best clubs in town! The evening will include noise, spoken narrative, synths, soundscapes, atmospheric phenomena and a tidal chorus.

ABOUT

Adrienne Herr works with the voice and language through installation, live performance and the page. The immediacy of speech is employed via her improvisational method, yet the visceral is ultimately reproduced and fabricated under study of how the body resonates language. Humor and theatricality accompany philopoetic connections between the building and the breaking of so-called hyper meaningful words.

Agnieszka Szczotka is a Polish-born performance artist based in London. Concerned with the politics and potentialities of the body, Szczotka’s carefully staged work contests the stability of narrative, whether personal or sociohistorical. Mining the grotesque, erotic, quotidian and transcendent, Agnieszka’s personas channel varied spirits, from the artist’s grandmother and her beloved Western-imported romance novellas to the decapitated head of Lady Jane Grey.

Dan Rhys Wakefield is an artist, researcher and performer. His work considers the voice, language and listening as collective tools to materialise our relationships with ecological and technological systems. He is currently completing an MA in Architecture at the Royal College of Art in London.

victor_a’s work takes the form of fully improvised drone and noise, using analog synths paired with live visuals to create a discordant live experience.

FIELDNOTES is an artist-run publishing project based in Newham in east London. We produce an annual print journal alongside a public programme of workshops, mentoring opportunities, radio broadcasts, screenings and readings. Founded in 2020, FIELDNOTES aims to promote and support non-conforming creative practices that pioneer new cultural forms. We seek to challenge the systemic inequalities that limit opportunities in the arts by working with individuals and communities who may not find support elsewhere. Our purpose is to provide a test site for poetic innovation, a place for new voices and collaborations, a venue for experimental modes and fresh departures between disciplines. We are interested in the third thing between two known things; we are looking for the spaces between translations and transitions.

ACCESS

Spanners is a yellow railway arch situated opposite a park. There is no significant incline or decline in the nearby routes to the venue. The road does have some small potholes and an uneven pavement; it is due to be resurfaced by the council. There is one step up into the entrance and a ramp available for wheelchair access. There are no other level changes inside the venue and the toilet is wheelchair accessible. Seating is available - should any patron require a chair during their visit please talk to a member of bar staff. Lighting does tend to be quite dark and there may be use of strobe lighting.
