Figure Block Printing (Brixton)
Make prints with us using traditional block carvings on lino!
Block printing is a traditional method using carvings into materials such as wood or in our case linoleum. Though dating back 2,000 years in Asia, it first arrived in Europe during the late Medieval period.
A few years have gone by since then, and Figure is running block printing workshops at the White Horse pub in Brixton! We'll provide you with carving tools, an A5 block of lino, guidance, printing ink and plenty of A5 paper.
It is strongly advised to have a design in mind before the session and bonus points if it's printed out for easy tracing. Keep in mind that block carvings print in reverse (like a stamp), so this is especially important if your design includes text. The less time you spend planning/carving the more time you have to make prints!
The session will run for 2.5 hours, with a small buffer at the end for extra printing time if needed. You’ll go home with a set of your own hand-printed pieces, plus your lino block to keep creating with after the event.
Come on your own, come with your friends, with printing experience, without printing experience... we'll look after everyone! And of course, drinks are available at the bar!
A few more important things...
Our inks are waterbased, however, please wear something you don't mind getting messy. You will also be using sharp (ish) tools so please be careful, a quick safety briefing will be given at the start of the event. Our lino blocks contain latex so please get in touch if you have an allergy and we can provide alternative blocks.
Any questions please message me (Juliet) and check out our instagram @wearefigure for more info and announcements.
