#UnionsForWomen
Ann Henderson has been a trade unionist throughout her life. A former Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) Assistant Secretary, she was presented with the STUC Women's Meritorious Award in 2017. In the 1980s, Ann worked with women members of the NUR (National Union of Railwaymen), now the RMT (The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers), to establish a national Women's Committee in the union. Ann has a strong commitment to establishing accountable and participative women's structures across the labour movement, and to the need to take up the experience of women in the workplace at every level of all trade unions. She has been involved with the Labour women's organisation, in its various forms, for over 40 years and is a former member of Labour's National and Scottish Executives and Women's Committees.
Nikki Pound is the TUC’s Women’s Policy Officer and joined the TUC in 2019 working in the economics team before becoming women's officer. Nikki leads the TUC's policy and campaign work on women's rights, representation and equality in the workplace. She works on policy issues such as women's health and safety in the workplace, sexual harassment and gender-based violence, representation of women in unions, occupational segregation, women in the labour market, equal pay, sex discrimination and maternity rights.
Kiri Tunks is a longstanding trade union and women's rights activist. She has held a number of posts in the National Union of Teachers and National Education Union at workplace, district, regional and national levels, including national President. In 2022, Kiri won the NEU's Annie Higdon Award in recognition of a lifetime of activity to engage women in the union movement. She was featured in the Trade Union Congress's 150 stories to celebrate the organisation's 150th anniversary. Kiri is a co-founder and trustee of Woman's Place UK and is now helping to coordinate the FiLiA Trade Union Women's Network.
Philipa Harvey has been active in the trade union movement since she began teaching. Integral to this work has been the campaigning she has been involved in for women's rights and the international solidarity work with trade unions. She has been elected into a number of posts in the National Union of Teachers and National Education Union, including national President. Philipa represented her Union at the TUC on the Women’s Committee and General Council. Philipa is a trustee of Woman's Place UK and is now enjoying being part of the FiLiA Trade Union Women's Network.
