Workshop Schedule & Locations:
- DAY 1 (22/09): Theory + camera practice @ Focus Canning
Start your 16mm journey with a mix of theory and hands-on camera practice. You’ll learn: how to choose the right 16mm film stock, loading and unloading cameras, as well as basic shooting techniques and exposure. Focus Canning, a London-based collective of camera purists, will provide camera packages for the workshop. Their philosophy blends old-school craftsmanship with progressive vision, supporting and enriching the creative power of cinematographers while making life easier for the Camera Department.
- DAY 2 (23/09): Hands-on exercise with cameras @ Focus Canning
Put theory into practice with practical camera exercises: shooting on 16mm film and lighting techniques for film. (Note: this day is an exercise to practice camera techniques; it is not intended to shoot a short film.)
- DAY 3 (29/09): KODAK Film Lab London tour (Pinewood Studios)
Conclude the workshop with a behind-the-scenes tour of the KODAK Film Lab London, a professional motion picture film processing facility. You’ll see how 16mm (as well as 35mm and 65mm) colour and black-and-white negatives are processed and scanned, gaining insight into the workflow that brings celluloid to the screen.
All materials, including film and cameras, will be provided. The workshop supports participants of all skill levels.
The workshop is designed especially for people who work, or wish to work, in the camera department, but all roles and skill levels are welcome.
Limited Places Available: To ensure every participant gets the best possible hands-on experience, places are very limited. We encourage you to secure your spot early to avoid disappointment!
More details about times and other information will be emailed to each participant upon ticket purchase.
