BFI NETWORK Shorts School, 18-21 August 2025
Welcome to BFI NETWORK Shorts School!
Over the course of the week, Shorts School participants will hear insights from BFI NETWORK-funded filmmakers and meet other creatives. Whether you’re working towards your first short or sixth, Shorts School is for emerging writers, directors & producers to explore case studies, creative process, navigating short filmmaking.
For the first time we will also be taking about the Early Development Fund. This supports writers in the very early stage of their development process, before having a script, to produce an initial treatment and related materials for a feature film idea (live action, immersive and animation fiction projects). We'll be featuring a case study on a funded project, exploring how they crafted their full treatment and our Talent Executives will explain more on the fund itself.
There will be Q&A’s, roundtables, the chance to view short work that’s come through the Short Film Fund, as well as a networking session to meet peers and potential collaborators.
Our guest speakers include;
- Levi Eddie Aluede, Director and Samson Ajewole, Writer & Actor, An Eighth of Him
- Theo Krakis, Writer & Director, Pram Snatcher
- Thea Gajic, Writer & Director, Surviving Earth (Early Development Fund project)
- Gavin Humphries, Managing Director, NOWNESS
- Janvier Wete and Regys Badi, Co-founders of Minute Shorts
