Films for Sudan: On Women’s Activism and Resistance

Wed 19 Nov 2025 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Pelican House- Common room, 144 Cambridge Heath Rd, Bethnal Green, London, E1 5QJ

Join us for a screening of two Sudanese films and delicious food by Sudanese Kitchen- Omer Al Tijani. 100% of the proceeds will go to Moves Charity (https://www.facebook.com/movescharityorg/), a women led organization currently delivering emergency food and medical aid to the people displaced from El Fasher, Darfur.

Khartoum Offside: A group of exceptional young women in Khartoum are determined to play football professionally. They are prepared to defy the ban imposed by Sudan's Islamic Military government, and they will not take no for an answer. Directed and produced by Marwa Zein.

Celebrating the Different Forms of Women’s Political Participation in Sudan: This short documentary highlights the stories of three Sudanese women activists in different spheres: sports and access to public spaces, the rights of informal workers, and the December Revolution that toppled Omar al-Bashir’s 30-year dictatorship. With insights from researchers, the film celebrates the resilience, courage, and creativity of Sudanese women who have shaped the country’s political and social movements for generations.

Menu: @sudanesekitchen will be serving:

  • Mish: spicy yoghurt and feta cheese dip
  • Aubergine salad: smoky, creamy and nutty aubergine salad with ripe pear.
  • Fattat Fuul: fava beans cooked with tomatoes, peppers and chickpeas on a bed of toasted baguette pieces garnished with silky scrambled eggs, Bulgarian feta cheese, ground cumin and virgin sesame oil.
  • Salatat Dakwa: Peanut butter with lime and salad vegetables, for a sweet, tangy dip.
