Description
Join us for a relaxed introduction to folk painting with Gosia Hobson from Studio Sosenka. Learn a range of diffect techniques to create your own piece of art and finish the afternoon off with a convivial supper. With a maximum group size of 8 people there will be plenty of hands-on support from Gosia.
Plan for the afternoon...
Gosia will start by introducing you to folk art and the techniques involved in its creation. She will teach you a range of paintbrush techniques and guide you through the different methods of mark making and motifs. You will have plenty of time to practice these and develop your skills before moving on to design and paint your own piece.
As your creations take shape, Judith, the resident cook at Fire and Feast, will light the woodfire and prepare a tasty two course supper cooked on wood for the group to enjoy together, creating a relaxed and convivial end to your Sunday afternoon. There will be time for questions and conversations and an opportunity to savour the beautiful Suffolk countryside as you carve and dine. Refreshments will be provided at the start and during the afternoon.
Your half day experience will include:
Freshly made hot / cold drinks and a sweet treat mid afternoon
Tuition throughout the afternoon from our experienced tutor
All equipment, tools and materials to create your piece
Two course campfire supper with a selection of drinks
Your artwork to take home at the end of the afternoon
Studio Sosenka is run by Gosia Hobson, a folk painter based in a studio in east Suffolk. She specialises in producing work that references traditional eastern and central European folk art. Her work ranges from larger pieces of furniture, to decorative bread boards, rocking horses and clogs. Gosia has been running folk art workshops at festivals as well as in her studio, where the focus is on learning to handle a paintbrush and create confident marks. The principles of traditional folk art are the basis of the tutorials, and at the end of each session the student will have produced their own piece of folk work.
Judith is co-founder of Fire and Feast Suffolk and is the resident cook for our Saturday night suppers and Sunday brunch café. She also grows the onsite produce for the kitchen. She has been a fire cook for many years and enjoys experimenting with all types of fire cookery.
