Fix It Yourself Victoria covers essential repair skills over six hands-on workshops. The course is designed to help you save money, cut waste and get hands-on fixing experience in a friendly environment.

This course takes place every other Thursday at the Victoria Fixing Factory from September 10th to November 19th.
Each session is designed for beginners and includes a blend of listening, watching demos and hands-on fixing. Each session covers a different topic, so by the end of the term you’ll have learned loads of new skills you can put to use at home!

Each session builds on the previous one, so we recommend attending them all, but not to worry if you can't make them all - you can also attend each event individually.

*Participants must be at least 18 years old.*

Overview of the 6 sessions:

10th September:
Session 1: Rookie Repairer (Learn and practice how to wire plugs and use tools to do so, as well as how to approach repair - learning visual safety inspection of items as a group and individually).

24th September:
Session 2: Bulbs and Basics - Lamps part one (Learn lamp, switch and bulb holder wiring, explore different lamp components).

8th October:
Session 3: Light It Up - Lamps part two (Building on bulbs and basics: Explore some sabotaged lamps, bring your own, diagnose and repair them).

22nd October:
Session 4: Nice Splice - Soldering part one (Intro to connecting wires and soldering - splicing wires, repairing connections).

5th November:
Session 5: Through The Hole - Soldering part two (Building on Nice Splice - soldering part one: Hone your solder skills -solder and desolder components on printed circuit boards).

19th November:
Session 6: Fix It Myself! (Building on prior lessons, but really recommended to have attended Rookie Repairer at least -
Explore sabotaged toasters, diagnose and repair them with the skills you’ve learned during the course).

Refunds and cancellations:
Bookings are only refundable up until a week before the event. After that point they are non-refundable. This is because we are a charity and need to pay our staff and facilitators/fixers to run events, so we lose charitable income from last-minute cancellations. It may be possible to reschedule your booking, but this is entirely at the workshop manager's discretion and may depend on overall numbers and availability for the particular workshop. Contact us at ana@therestartproject.org if you want to reschedule, or have any questions.
