About Shipmans

Shipmans is one of Northampton’s oldest pubs. A public house has stood on this site since the early-to-mid 1700s! Over the centuries, the pub has gone through various transformations, including name changes, and today it’s well known locally for its signature cocktails.

With its cosy atmosphere, Shipmans offers an ideal setting for intimate solo and duo jazz performances. The jazz nights are held in either the Drapery Room or the Drum Room, which sit above the main pub, and provide a peaceful and intimate setting to enjoy an evening of live jazz music.

Accessibility: The jazz nights at this venue take place upstairs and are accessible by stairs only, owing to the age and structure of the building. Step-free access is not available. I recognise that not all venues are fully accessible. For this reason, the main jazz nights are held at The Sun Inn, where accessible facilities are available and assistance can be provided to support access to the venue. About Tom Remon & John Stowell

Following Tom Remon's memorable Flamingo Jazz Nights debut last year alongside Agostino Di Giorgio, Remon returns this October to share the stage with legendary American guitarist John Stowell for a unique duo performance as part of Stowell's rare UK tour.

A graduate of Tomorrow's Warriors, Remon has released three albums as a bandleader and performed extensively throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. He has collaborated with leading jazz artists from the UK, Ireland, and the US, including David Lyttle, Hugh Buckley, Jim Mullen, Benet McLean, Soweto Kinch, Steve Williamson, and Neil Yates.

Stowell is internationally celebrated for his rich harmonic language, distinctive touch, and lyrical improvisational style. Over a career spanning decades, Stowell has performed with jazz greats including Milt Jackson and David Liebman, and is a two-time recipient of the DownBeat Critics' Poll Award.

Together, Stowell’s masterful artistry and Remon’s expressive, dynamic playing create a compelling musical partnership. Expect an evening of inventive interplay, beautiful melodies, and world class jazz in an intimate duo setting - an unforgettable experience for jazz lovers and newcomers alike.
