Fraser Smith

Over the last decade and a half, Fraser has built a fiery reputation as a leading tenor saxophonist on the UK scene.

Following hundreds of appearances as Fraser and the Alibis, featuring Mercury Prize nominee Joe Webb on organ, Fraser went on to record on Joe Webb's previous album, Summer Chill, and played the launch gigs at Ronnie Scott's, the 100 Club, and 5db Studios.

Fraser's debut album, Tiptop!, was released on Ubuntu Records in 2023 and amassed an impressive 1.3 million streams. He is currently touring Lifeline!, his latest release, which received glowing reviews from The Times, The Guardian, and Jazzwise. It was also included in The Times and Jazzwise 'Best Jazz Albums of the Year' lists for 2025.

In April 2026, Fraser formed part of legendary bassist Chuck Israels' European quartet for a run of gigs. Chuck is a verified jazz star, having recorded with John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz, and ten albums with Bill Evans. He also performed with Billie Holiday, Bud Powell, and a whole list of other jazz greats.

Aside from his busy UK schedule, Fraser continues to perform internationally, having appeared at premier clubs in Portugal, China, Belgium, France, Mexico, and many more.

Simon Read

Simon is a London-based jazz bassist who studied at Leeds College of Music under Garry Jackson, Zoltan Dekany, and Dave Kane. After graduating, he established himself on the Leeds jazz scene, leading an octet on a series of Jazz North-funded performances before moving to London in 2015. Since then, Simon has become an active member of the UK jazz scene, performing and recording extensively with groups including the Adrian Cox Quartet and Sam Leak Trio. He also performs with The Fraser Smith Quartet as well as the slimmed down Trio!

George Povey-Prentice

George is a professional drummer, composer, and teacher with extensive experience across jazz and a wide range of musical styles. He holds a First Class Honours degree and a Master’s with Distinction in Jazz Performance and Composition, having studied at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Throughout his studies and professional career, George has worked with and learned from leading international drummers, including John Riley, Gregory Hutchinson, Bill Stewart, Ian Thomas, Rudy Royston, and Martin France. Alongside his performing career, he has more than a decade of teaching experience and holds the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) in teaching. George’s musical interests span jazz, Latin and world music, funk, rock, pop, and metal. He brings a broad musical perspective, a wealth of experience, and a dynamic approach to his performances.

Accessibility: The main pub is wheelchair accessible and has accessible toilet facilities. The jazz nights take place on the ground floor of the adjoining building (The Barn), which has a step at the entrance. Assistance and reasonable adjustments can be arranged where possible.
