FROM CONCEPT TO CREATION

Industrial Design & Innovation Career Day at Humber Polytechnic

Design it. Create it. Pitch it.

Ever wondered how the cars we drive, the products we use and the technology we rely on go from a simple idea to something real?

Step inside the exciting world of Industrial Design at Humber Polytechnic for a hands-on SHSM experience that brings creativity, innovation, engineering and business together!

Students will kick off their day with an exclusive one-hour hands-on lab experience and tour in Humber's Industrial Design Department, exploring how designers turn ideas into innovative products. They'll discover the creative thinking, technical skills and design processes behind everything from automotive design to everyday consumer products.

Then it's time to put those skills to the test!

Working with Flashpoint Training and a professional industrial designer, students will tackle a real-world industry challenge as part of their SPE-ICE certification.

Using design thinking, teamwork and creative problem-solving, students will explore a challenge, brainstorm ideas, develop innovative solutions and pitch their concepts. Along the way, they'll consider the same questions professional designers face: Who are we designing for? What problem are we solving? How will it work? What will it cost? And why would someone choose our design?

The day wraps up with student pitches and feedback from an industry professional, giving students the opportunity to experience what it's like to bring a new product concept to life.

This isn't just a tour. It's a chance to think like a designer, solve problems like an innovator and pitch ideas like an entrepreneur!
