BEHIND THE GAME: SPORT CAREERS IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS
An Exclusive SHSM SPE Career Experience the Toronto Raptors SPE
From the school to the basketball court — discover the careers that bring professional sports to life!
***Please note that due to high demand for the Raptors, these seats will likely not be all together**
What does it really take to bring professional sports to millions of fans?
It's much more than the athletes on the court. Behind every game is an incredible team of broadcasters, producers, marketers, technology specialists, event professionals and business leaders working together to create an unforgettable experience.
Flashpoint Training is bringing students to Toronto for a unique SHSM career exploration experience that connects postsecondary education, sport media, hands-on learning and professional basketball.
Students will explore the postsecondary institution of your choice, participate in an interactive Flashpoint Training SPE certification and finish their day with a live NBA game!
Three experiences. One unforgettable day.
STOP 1: Post Secondary Stop of Your Choice
Discover the world behind sports broadcasting and media production.
Choose your postsecondary destination
As part of the field trip, your group can visit the college or university of your choice. Flashpoint Training will coordinate a postsecondary stop that connects with your students’ interests, SHSM sector or career goals.
Students can explore a campus, learn about relevant programs and discover the pathways, skills and opportunities available after high school. It’s a chance to connect classroom learning with future possibilities and help students picture where their interests could take them.
STOP 2: FLASHPOINT TRAINING – INTERACTIVE SPE CERTIFICATION
Take what you've discovered and put your skills to work!
Next, students will participate in an interactive Sector-Partnered Experience (SPE) delivered by Flashpoint Training.
Through engaging challenges, team activities and real-world problem-solving, students will explore the skills that connect sport media, professional sports and the broader workplace.
Students will investigate how different professionals and departments work together to deliver successful sporting events, solve unexpected challenges and create memorable experiences for fans.
The session will emphasize communication, collaboration, creative thinking, leadership and adaptability while encouraging students to consider their own strengths and career interests.
This experience connects what students have discovered at TMU with the workplace skills and career opportunities found throughout the sports industry.
STOP 3: TORONTO RAPTORS – CAREER TALK & NBA GAME
Go beyond the court and discover the business of professional basketball!
The final stop takes students into the exciting world of the Toronto Raptors. If you ordered the SPE Career Talk portion, you will attend that.
And then it's game time!
Students will finish their day by attending a live Toronto Raptors NBA game, experiencing firsthand the energy, entertainment, production and excitement that go into a major professional sporting event.
After spending the day exploring the people and careers behind professional sports, they'll get to experience the final product as fans!
