Having grown in stature and reputation over the last couple of years, the Reel Brum network is thriving.
Each month the event brings together the city’s filmmaking talent for talks, presentations, and screenings.
We’re super excited to present the best of all the films shown at Reel Brum’s events over the past year at Flatpack 2025, one of which will go on to win the Reel Brum award (£200 cash prize).
This is the first of two programmes of films and will include:
Burger Van Man (dir. Calum Rhys, Alex Singh & Dan Trueman)
A down-on-his-luck family man makes the impulsive decision to buy a burger van with his life savings in an attempt to open a new chapter in his life, but inadvertently closes another when it ends his marriage.
Inside Turn (dir. James Cookson)
Whilst trying to steal from a sick pensioner, to impress a gang, a lonely teenager finds something unexpected and altogether more valuable.
No Worries If Not (dir. Emma Hodgkinson)
‘No Worries If Not!’ tells the story of Grace, a lifelong addict of people pleasing, who prefaces every request with the sentence too many of us are familiar with – “no worries if not!” (and usually with several exclamation marks). This dark comedy pokes fun at a behavioural habit many of us are guilty of – particularly millennial women trying to navigate the workplace after a lifetime of being criticised for speaking assertively and labelled ‘bossy.’ Giving voice to these silent struggles is absolutely vital if we want to see change, and we’ve worked with qualified mental health professionals to develop a script which tackles some of the most common daily challenges.
Obscurum (dir. Tenisha White)
A lone driver’s (Daisy) late-night journey on a desolate highway takes a terrifying turn when a car malfunction and a chilling encounter leave her questioning reality. Obscurum is a heart- pounding exploration of isolation and the primal terror that lurks in the shadows, leaving audiences to question what truly awaits Daisy in the encroaching darkness.
Replay (dir. Rashad Edwards)
A nurse. A routine. A breaking point. “Replay” dives into the quiet chaos of burnout in the NHS.
Who Wants To Be Me?
(dir. Pip Barclay & Josh Harper) Sometimes life has a funny way of not playing ball, as Sam's unlikely lottery win catapults him into a whirlwind of unexpected chaos and hilarious misfortune in this heartwarming tragicomedy.
What are Solidarity tickets?
We recognise that not everyone has equal access to live events and that the cost of entry is a barrier to some people. Solidarity tickets are free tickets available for anyone who needs it. If you're not sure whether that's you, refer to our guide below (thank you to Matchbox Cineclub for sharing this guide).
Solidary tickets are for you if you agree with any of the following statements:
- I frequently stress about meeting basic needs (including food, clothing, housing and transportation) and don’t always achieve them.
- I have debt and it sometimes prohibits me from meeting my basic needs.
- I rent lower-end properties or have unstable housing.
- I sometimes can’t afford public or private transport. If I own a car/have access to a car, I am not always able to afford petrol.
- I am unemployed or underemployed.
- I qualify for government and/or voluntary assistance including: food banks and benefits.
- I have no access to savings.
- I have no or very limited expendable income (expendable income might mean you are able to buy tea or coffee at a shop, go to the cinema or a concert, buy new clothes, books and similar items each month etc.)
- I rarely buy new items because I am unable to afford them.
- I cannot afford a holiday or have the ability to take time off without financial burden.
