Reel Brum Two

Having grown in stature and reputation over the last couple of years, the Reel Brum network is thriving.

Each month the event brings together the city’s filmmaking talent for talks, presentations, and screenings.

We’re super excited to present the best of all the films shown at Reel Brum’s events over the past year at Flatpack 2025, one of which will go on to win the Reel Brum award (£200 cash prize). This is the second of two programmes of films and will include:

A Million Numbers (dir. Matthew Cooke & Vincent Lund)
A time travelling cab driver pulls the ultimate "forever shift" for one last chance to watch his daughter grow up.

Divine (dir. Mya Shakham)
An inspiring journey into the lives of two individuals forever changed by the transformative power of house music and the rave scene. Through their stories and insights from DJs, experts, and academics, this narrative unveils the profound spiritual and cultural impact of raving - where music becomes a catalyst for connection, healing, and self-discovery.

Dusty Do Good (dir. Jack Hughes)
A young boy with Down’s syndrome escapes his troubled home life through an old cowboy TV show and models himself on the main character. He roams his estate as a righteous lawman, but things take a darker turn when he runs into a local gang.

Fortune Tell Her (dir. Robert George Lane)
A story about Gertrude, a lady with a remarkable gift to see the future. Filmed in one day at The Rose Villa Tavern in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Starring Janice Connolly, Laurence Saunders, Robert George Lane and a host of talented performers from the Midlands.

Outlands (dir. Mark Hampton)
A band of warriors must navigate the uncharted woodlands of Barberia, but find trouble closing in all around..

Zugzwang (dir. Genevieve Lowe)
Two strangers meet at a slipway, but their exchange does not go according to plan.

What are Solidarity tickets?

We recognise that not everyone has equal access to live events and that the cost of entry is a barrier to some people. Solidarity tickets are free tickets available for anyone who needs it. If you're not sure whether that's you, refer to our guide below (thank you to Matchbox Cineclub for sharing this guide).

Solidary tickets are for you if you agree with any of the following statements:

  • I frequently stress about meeting basic needs (including food, clothing, housing and transportation) and don’t always achieve them.
  • I have debt and it sometimes prohibits me from meeting my basic needs.
  • I rent lower-end properties or have unstable housing.
  • I sometimes can’t afford public or private transport. If I own a car/have access to a car, I am not always able to afford petrol.
  • I am unemployed or underemployed.
  • I qualify for government and/or voluntary assistance including: food banks and benefits.
  • I have no access to savings.
  • I have no or very limited expendable income (expendable income might mean you are able to buy tea or coffee at a shop, go to the cinema or a concert, buy new clothes, books and similar items each month etc.)
  • I rarely buy new items because I am unable to afford them.
  • I cannot afford a holiday or have the ability to take time off without financial burden.
