Join us for a night of celebrating local filmmakers and small communities.
We've teamed up with Meera Darji (Birmingham City University), Centrala and Pan-Pan to screen two short documentaries that shine a light on the huge power of small communities.
Films
Transindia
(Dir: Meera Darji, India 2018, 30 mins)
A documentary exploring the transgender community also known as Hijras in Gujarat, India.
Queercore in the Second City
(Dir: Centrala, Executive producers: Lexi Bushell & Ryley Morton, UK 2025, 30 mins)
A film about Birmingham’s thriving Queer Hardcore (queercore) scene, a subculture rooted in punk’s DIY ethos, community building, and queer resistance.
The event will include a Q&A with some of those involved in making these films, reflecting on the motivations and challenges behind documentary production and interventions in small communities.
This event has been programmed by Gina Matuska as part of her project Queerness, community and cinema.
