Capturing the Essence: A Travel Art Workshop in Dean Village, Edinburgh - with Mark Holden

A day workshop focused on travel art, based in our office, set in the beautiful surroundings of Dean Village, a chance to slow down and see a place differently.

Led by our tutor Mark Holden, the day is designed to be relaxed, creative and accessible, whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or looking to develop your style.

You’ll be guided through simple, enjoyable techniques to help you capture the essence of this unique corner of Edinburgh, from quick sketches to loose watercolours. It’s not about creating perfect paintings, but about noticing the soft light on the water, the textures of the old stone buildings, and the quiet atmosphere that makes Dean Village so special.

We’ll take inspiration directly from our surroundings — thinking about how to build a visual diary, how to work quickly on location, and how to bring a real sense of place into your work.

You’ll leave with a handful of pieces, new skills you can take on any trip, and a fresh way of experiencing the places you visit.
