Give it a Go: Watercolour Painting

Start the New Year by learning something new!

The second event in our ‘Give it a Go’ series is your chance to pick up a paintbrush, try watercolour painting and see where a little creativity takes you.

Join experienced Flavours artist Mark Holden at our Edinburgh office in beautiful Dean Village for a relaxed day designed especially for complete beginners.

We’ll start the morning by heading out around Dean Village and the Water of Leith with Mark, looking for inspiration in the buildings, water, trees and winter landscape around us. Mark will show you how an artist looks at a scene and begins to think about turning what they see into a painting.

We’ll then return to the Flavours office we'll be getting creative with a relaxed watercolour workshop led by Mark. Delicious Lunch will be provided by our cook Scott.

Who is it for?

Absolutely no painting experience is needed. If you’ve ever thought “I’d love to try painting, but I wouldn’t know where to start”, this is exactly what Give it a Go is for.

It’s a friendly, encouraging day where you can learn the basics, ask questions, experiment and enjoy being creative with fellow Amici.

What should I bring?

Nothing, we'll provide everything you need. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and willingness to give it a go!

What will I learn?

Mark will introduce you to some of the basic principles of watercolour painting, including shape, movement, colour and blending, and show you how to approach creating your own picture without worrying about getting everything “right”.

We hope you’ll leave with more confidence, a few new skills, your own piece of artwork and perhaps the beginnings of a new hobby for the year ahead.
