FLEAPIT CINEMA PRESENTS: A RYAN STEEL X KALIL HADDAD DOUBLE FEATURE

Fleapit Cinema is very excited to present a very special double feature of YOU SORTA KNOW IT’S GONNA END, the brand new B2B videomixtape featuring ten classic shorts by Ryan Steel and Kalil Haddad, followed by HE NEVER DIES, a four-film cycle by Kalil Haddad, concluding with an afterparty RAVE featuring DJ sets by Ryan Steel and ENDLESSS. There will be films, food, drinks, merch, a Q&A, and lots of dancing. 

YOU SORTA KNOW IT’S GONNA END - 60 mins

Two of Canada’s most electric experimental filmmakers and longtime Fleapit favourites have teamed up to present a brand new video mixtape interweaving ten of their haziest hangout shorts. While both making films drenched in distortion textures, the thematic interests of the Ryan Steel and Kalil Haddad vary vastly but intersect here at the crossroads of adolescence, memory, and DIY magic tricks. Seeing YOU SORTA KNOW IT’S GONNA END is akin to listening to Madvillainy for the first time, but with two filmmakers both cultivating vibes and chasing rhythms that make you, above all, feel something. The mixtape concludes with the brand new collaborative short “BAND PRACTICE” and we’re screening this thing straight from a VCR with the tape inside.

HE NEVER DIES: A FOUR FILM CYCLE - 40 mins

After touring around the world, Kalil Haddad’s HE NEVER DIES cycle is finally coming to Halifax. Featuring THE TAKING OF JORDAN, THE BOY WAS FOUND UNHARMED, VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE, and MY SECRET BOYFRIEND DIED IN A MASS SHOOTING — four of Kalil’s most transgressive interrogations of image to date — HE NEVER DIES explores violence and homosexuality through the artifacts of exploitation. It’s loud, it’s emotional, and it's intense. You've never seen anything like it.
