Training from the BACK of the Room
Experience what engaging, memorable learning feels like.
When students are active, curious, and talking about what they’re learning, real understanding happens.
That’s what Training from the BACK of the Room (TBR) is all about, giving you the structure, tools, and confidence to make that kind of learning happen every time you teach.
You’ll explore practical, easy-to-use strategies grounded in how the brain learns, and you’ll experience them in action throughout the course, using each strategy to learn about it.
What This Course Delivers
TBR builds on the brain-based strategies introduced by Sharon Bowman and expands them with new insights and applications for use in today’s classrooms and training rooms.
You’ll experience and apply six Learning Principles rooted in cognitive science and learn how to use the 4Cs Template, an easy structure that helps you plan powerful, interactive lessons in less time.
You’ll leave with a clear framework, a full toolbox of ready-to-use techniques, and the confidence to design sessions that your students remember and apply.

Meet your Instructor:

Hi, I’m Nicole Fleming, Director of the TBR Community and a Certified Trainer for Teaching from the BACK of the Room.
I started my career in science with a degree in microbiology and spent ten years teaching and training in lab and research settings. During that time, and even earlier in college science courses, I sat through plenty of trainings and lectures that were packed with information but didn’t really help me understand or remember much of it. Those experiences made me curious about what actually helps people learn and apply what they’ve been taught.
Once I moved into training, I learned what helps people truly learn and use what they know. Over the past decade, I’ve worked with teachers and trainers around the world who care about making learning more engaging and meaningful. I value creating safe spaces where people can share ideas, try new things, and connect what they learn to real life.
What drives me is simple: helping people teach and learn in ways that make a real difference.
