Develop your own story practice. You will learn how to work with traditional stories so they are alive in and around you. You will learn how to research, choose, respect, learn from, and share stories that have both literary and oral origins. We will work with folklore, folktales, fairy tales and myth. Playful and informative, you’ll develop skills in oracy, improvisation, repertoire and philosophical thinking.
Weekly Themes1. What is the stuff of story? 2. How is structure significant? 3. How to respect tradition and share stories excellently. 4. BREAK. 5. Forming, sustaining, and ending relationships with story. 6. Applied storytelling; how you bring story into your life. 7. Sharing Circle: receiving to learn how to give. 8. Sharing Circle: Endings.
What will we do in a typical 2hr session? 10 min check-in. I will tell a story relevant to the theme of the week. Then, you will be given a series of fun exercises that build on each other. They will help you accumulate your understanding at your own speed. Discussion time. Break. More tasks and discussion. Instructions for home activities. End. There will be opportunities to collaborate with other participants in small groups and to work solo.
What will you do at home during the week? Check the Google Classroom for resources. Complete a 20 min daily story exercise that will help you habituate yourself into a life-long practice of working with story.
Who is the course for? Curious creatives, and thoughtful humans who want to discover how to work with stories in a practical, fun and efficient way. The course will help participants to see how their story work applies to their own world of work, home and creative endeavour.
NOTE. There will be 7 teaching sessions and a teaching Break on 28 Oct
