Travel, flying and the climate crisis (Exeter)
Our flagship event comes to Exeter, where we explore the topic of flight-free travel, including why it's important to fly less, and how we can still travel without the high carbon footprint.
Our panel of local speakers will discuss various aspects of sustainable travel, from flying in academia, to why leading by example is important when it comes to choosing how we travel. We will also cover the climate impact of aviation, barriers to choosing low-carbon travel, and inspirational tales of flight-free travel across Europe and further afield. The speaker section will be followed by questions from the audience.
On the line-up:
- Sarah Finch: could her landmark legal win on fossil fuels help stop airport expansion too?
- Professor Stewart Barr and Dr Ewan Woodley (University of Exeter): reducing flying in academia
- James Dyke: the limitations of offsetting
- Vipul Patel: modelling low-carbon behaviour and leading by example
- Anna Hughes (Flight Free UK): climate impact of aviation and the options for flight-free travel
This event will take place at the Newman Green lecture theatre, Peter Chalk Centre, University of Exeter, Stocker Road, EX4 4QD. There is an option to join online and tune into the livestream, and the event will also be recorded.
