Celebrating the remarkable artistic partnership and shared vision of two of Devon’s most significant documentary photographers, we are delighted to welcome author and photographer Chris Chapman. James Ravilious and Chris Chapman both began their photographic careers in Devon in 1972: Ravilious documenting rural North Devon for the Beaford Archive, while Chapman photographed life on Dartmoor. Over the following decades, both created extraordinary records of Devon’s landscapes, communities and changing way of life. Ravilious made more than 75,000 photographs for the Beaford Archive, while Chapman continues to photograph and write about Dartmoor today. Chris will illustrate his talk with a selection of paired photographs that he and James took over the course of their friendship, revealing striking connections between their work and their shared affection for rural Devon. £12 |
