Guy Shrubsole: Bringing back the Last Rainforests of Britain
Guy Shrubsole: Bringing back the Last Rainforests of Britain
Share this event
Temperate rainforest may once have covered up to one-fifth of Britain, inspiring Celtic druids, Welsh wizards, Romantic poets and Arthur Conan Doyle’s most loved creations. Though only fragments now remain, they are home to a dazzling variety of luminous life-forms – from lush lichens and mosses to rare birds and weird fungi. Guy Shrubsole is an environmental campaigner, writer and author of The Lost Rainforests of Britain, which helped bring these forgotten landscapes to public attention. In this richly illustrated talk, he takes us on a journey around some of Britain’s lost rainforests and explores the campaigns now underway to restore them, including recent victories on Dartmoor to expand the ancient rainforests of Wistman’s Wood and Black Tor Copse. |
