The Oak Tree - History, Science, Folklore

A relaxed workshop exploring the history, science and folklore of the oak tree.

• A gentle stroll around beautiful Filham park* to meet the ancient oak trees.

• Learn how the oak shaped our history.

• Discover some of the 2000 species oak supports.

• Explore the role of the oak in European folklore and religion.

• Learn how oak galls form and how they can be turned into ink.

Then, inspired by what you've learned, get creative with natural gall ink and other materials to sketch, paint, doodle and create a memento to keep. No prior knowledge or creative ability required! In this workshop you'll be invited to try using art as a way to relax and connect with nature rather than aiming for perfectionism. Relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone welcome.

All materials provided - just bring your curiosity (and a picnic blanket!) and get ready to relax and unwind in nature!
