THE COURSE LEADER: Don Paterson is a multi award-winning poet, writer and musician. For many years he was Professor of Poetry at the University of St Andrews and poetry editor for the London publishers Picador. He recently released a critically acclaimed autobiography ‘Toy Fights: A Boyhood’ published by Faber & Faber.COURSE CONTENT: This course is a study weekend where Don chooses a series of poems - some famous, some obscure, some old and some new - to share and discuss with the group. Participants sit communally around a table for animated conversation and study during the day, after which there is an evening meal where people are encouraged to share poems or music. On the last day, everyone brings a poem by a poet they’ve recently been reading and wish to share. Working with Don is riveting, and the work and the company always engaging. This is a great situation in which to meet like-minded people, eat delicious home-cooked food and share your love of poetry.
WHO IS IT FOR?: This course is for anyone with an interest in studying poetry in depth, whether or not they are poets themselves.
LEARNING OUTCOMES: You’ll gain some in-depth theory and knowledge about poetry, poets and the history of the art form, plus all aspects of the Stones Barn experience; optional singaround/reading performance on the Saturday evening, great food, time to socialise with new friends and to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
