As the climate crisis intensifies alongside increasing global uncertainty and discord in areas like food security, migration, wealth inequality and human rights, organisations face a growing twin challenge: first challenge - how do you communicate complex, multi-faceted issues in ways that inspires rather than overwhelms audiences? Second challenge – how do you centre the expertise and testimony of people from global majority communities who are disproportionately affected by these issues?

Many NGOs are finding that the most powerful advocacy communications connect evidence and expertise with the human experiences of the people living closest to the challenges and solutions. But doing this well requires organisations to think carefully about whose voices are being heard, whose perspectives are missing and how power is shared.

In this session, we'll explore how organisations can combine science, research, storytelling and community voices to create more persuasive advocacy and stronger public engagement around these hugely complicated and interrelated issues.

Why join us?

Forster Director, Peter Gilheany, will be in conversation with Chris Madden, Head of Advocacy at marine conservation NGO Blue Ventures. Chris will bring practical insights into how organisations can ensure communities are not simply featured in campaigns, but are meaningfully involved in shaping advocacy, influencing decisions and telling their own stories.
